Hey! My name is Sophia and I’m a 23-year-old gal interested in healthy and happy living. I graduated from Loyola University Chicago in May 2010. I got lucky, and was hired at the company I had been interning with since December 2009. I worked there until June 2010 as a full-time editor, and really learned a lot about myself in the process.
I determined that staring at a computer ultimately wasn’t right for me. Also, I ended up gaining weight since I was stuck at my desk for eight hours a day. Five pounds may not seem like a big deal, but when you’re 5’2, every little bit counts. So I decided to get myself back into shape, by exercising 5-6 times a week and eating healthy.
After a couple months of working out regularly, cutting back on sweets and red meat and adding a whole bunch of vegetables to my diet, I feel so much better! And I don’t want to stop anytime soon. Getting back in shape and ultimately regaining my confidence, gave me the power to look for a new job. Though I had two amazing co-workers, I had become miserable at work and it was bleeding over into my personal and social life. I wasn’t the positive, up-beat person anymore. I complained about work all the time.
I applied to a couple positions, and nailed an interview at a very large company in the heart of downtown Chicago. In June, I began working as a public relations specialist, and I couldn’t be happier, even though my daily schedule is constantly jam-packed.
I wake up before the sun rises, and don’t usually get home until about 5:45 p.m. Each day can be a major struggle as I strive to find the right balance of working out, hanging out with friends and family, spending time with my boyfriend, reading, writing and blogging! But I’m up to the challenge.
So what else? Hm…I’m 100% Greek and can speak it pretty fluently. I’ve been living 2 blocks outside of Chicago since I was a kid, and I don’t think I’ll ever be able to leave this city, despite the cold.
I love science fiction and fantasy, and that includes Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, many superheroes, Star Trek, Sailor Moon, Xena Warrior Princess, Buffy, anything relating to vampires, zombies and werewolves…and so much more. I’m a geek at heart and proud of it!
I truly believe that everything happens for a reason, and that we have to go through crappy things to not only become stronger, but to find ourselves. Everyone goes through rough patches, but no matter what, you can always pick yourself up. We’re in charge of our own lives, and we are the only ones who can make the decisions to change.
My blog will mostly contains anecdotes about my life, my workouts, a small portion of what I eat and any other random thought that pops into my head.
I hope you enjoy yourself while you’re here! If you have any questions/comments/concerns, you can email me at ravenwavesblog @ gmail . com.
