About Me

Sophia

Hey! My name is Sophia and I’m a 25-year-old gal interested in healthy and happy living. I graduated from Loyola University Chicago in May 2010. I’ve held a few jobs since graduating, first as an editor for a small company that managed a variety of websites related to food and exercising. Then I dabbled in PR for about a year and a half at a large financial institution. Now I work for a company that tracks advertising rates as a Marketing Communications Specialist. It’s about 10 minutes away from my home and it’s fabulous!

I’ve been dating my boyfriend Paul since February 2007 and we moved in together in May 2013. He’s my rock and can make me smile and laugh like no-one else. I’m very close to my family and I have a younger sister and brother.

So what else? Hm…I’m 100% Greek and can speak it pretty fluently. I’ve been living 2 blocks outside of Chicago since I was a kid, and I don’t think I’ll ever be able to leave this city, despite the cold. I love science fiction and fantasy, and that includes Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, many superheroes, Star Trek, Sailor Moon, Xena Warrior Princess, Buffy, anything relating to vampires, zombies…and so much more. I’m a geek at heart and proud of it!

I’m an exercise nut and have run three half marathons so far. I try to work out 5-6 times a week, specifically running, weights and yoga when I can manage it. Exercising is seriously what keeps me sane. It’s my “me-time” and allows me to reflect on my day.

I’m an avid believer that everything happens for a reason, and that we have to go through crappy things to not only become stronger, but to find ourselves. Everyone goes through rough patches, but no matter  what, you can always pick yourself up. We’re in charge of our own lives, and we are the only ones who can make the decisions to change.

I started this blog in 2011, but took a very long hiatus from mid-2012 until 2014. But now that the New Year is here, I’d like to try this whole blogging thing out again. My blog will mostly contains anecdotes about my life, my workouts, recipes and any other random thought that pops into my head.

I hope you enjoy yourself while you’re here! If you have any questions/comments/concerns, you can email me at ravenwavesblog @ gmail . com.

  1. Being 5’2.5 (the .5 is VERY important) I feel your pain. I lost 2lbs last year which may not seem like to much to most on my small frame it was quite a bit. I look forward to reading your blog

  2. I’m still in school and have to spend most of my time reading/writing, so I feel your pain also, as well as the height factor being brought into it. And holla Lord of the Rings!

  3. Just came across your blog and it looks fun! I also truly believe that everything in life happens for a reason and said that exact thing in my “about” section. Sometimes it’s just hard to figure out what the reasons are. :) Awesome that you can speak Greek! I went to Greece a few years ago and it was beautiful!!!

  4. So glad I came across your blog! That’s so awesome that you can speak Greek!!

  5. I go to LUC! I graduate in 2012, meaning we went to school together!

I am sooo excited that I found your blog!

  6. I’m tall, but I’ve noticed there’s something like “crucial” pounds you can see rather than others. So, if I gain a few pounds, they may not show, but if I gain another one (a crucial one), it does. (Just a theory. ;))

Yay for science fiction and fantasy! I love LOTR, and the Star Wars movies were my favorites as a child. :)

  7. It’s my first time to your blog and i’m happy I found it! I love how you mention being small and noticing every pound! I’m 5’3 and petite which means I have to work harder to keep in shape because 5 pounds on a small frame it that much more noticeable :) I’m up for the challenge though! Anyhow, love your blog — keep it up!

  8. I had a hard time adjusting to a desk job after college too but eventually you get the hang of it and make adjustments! I love walking 3 times a day on my breaks!

  11. Really enjoyed reading your blog girl! You are a very good writer :)

    Will be back!
